A revised version of Demio sub-compact car by Mazda has been released already for automotive market in Japan. 2012MY Demio also known as Mazda2 is the basic step to introduce brand new 13 SKYACTIV model which is using a suite of fuel-saving technologies. This Demio uses 1.3 liter direct-injection gasoline engine.

The revised Demio engine had been designed with a high record of compression ratio on 14.0:1; the four cylinder powerplants provides 84 horsepower at 5,400 rpm and 112 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. Based on Japanese standard, it has been mounted to a standard continuously variable transmission system along with the fuel economy rated at 30 km per liter or almost equal to 3.33 lt/100 km.

Meanwhile, there is an improvement of i-stop system on this Demio 13-SKYACTIV together with some unique components such as a rear spoiler for controlling airflow above and below the body, engine under cover.
